WMCA is looking for a Governance Services Officer to manage and oversee the governance activity of decision making meetings at the West Midlands Combined Authority.

The role will be responsible for managing agendas, liaising with senior leaders to ensure meeting actions are complete and reports submitted on time, taking minutes and actions at meetings and ensuring documents are sent out as needed.

What will you be doing? 

  • To deliver to a comprehensive committee administration service to support the West Midlands Combined Authority’s corporate meetings.
  • To ensure that the Mayor, councillors and officers are aware of and follow the provisions of the West Midlands Combined Authority’s constitution, and that all corporate meeting processes adhere to the constitution’s requirements and all other appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with directors, senior councillors and chairs of meetings and other appropriate senior officers to prepare the agenda for meetings
  • Manage the process of ensuring that agenda papers and reports for meetings are circulated in sufficient time and to appropriate individuals.
  • Provide support for the West Midlands Combined Authority’s decision making process, including by attending any and all corporate meetings of the West Midlands Combined Authority

About you

We are looking for someone who is methodical and is confident speaking to senior managers to ensure they meet deadlines and deliver on out puts from meetings.

This role will suit someone who can work to set deadlines and timetables and be able to take responsibility for their directorate meetings by providing efficient and effective administrative support.

  • The ability to plan their own work and that of others effectively, meet set deadlines and work under pressure
  • An organised approach, work on their own initiative and have a creative approach to resolving problems
  • An awareness and appreciation of confidential or sensitive matters of a political and corporate nature
  • Experience of building good working relationships with colleagues across the organisation

About the team

Operating at the heart of the organisation, the Chief Executive’s Office provides strategic advice, corporate grip, and coordination to support the executive leadership of the West Midlands Combined Authority, enabling a ‘one organisation’ culture and promoting a positive external reputation and influence. It is a small, multi-functional team that provides important enabling and support functions including internal communications, equalities and inclusion, and stakeholder management. We work corporately across the organisation and closely with the Mayor’s Office, Governance, Communications and Organisational Development.
