Supply Chain 4.0 – How Wireless Communications Is at the Centre of Supply Chain Digitisation
Moving freight from A to B is getting an upgrade. Industry 4.0 is on the horizon, and the digitisation of the supply chain is a key component.

There has been great progress in the digitisation of freight logistics in particular, with an increased use of interconnected devices and smart technology capitalising on the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

Wireless connectivity has a vital role in ensuring that all parts of these systems work seamlessly together. Public wireless networks, private wireless networks and hybrid wireless networks combine with Smart City initiatives, connected road environments, connected sea ports, airports and numerous IoT use cases to meet rapidly evolving customer expectations.

Previously frustrating supply chain changes are being managed more efficiently, more cost-effectively and less problematic as technological evolutions enable smoother day-to-day communications.

All modes of transport are becoming part of an increasingly digitised ‘systems of systems’ – with drone aircraft, drone ships, autonomous vehicles, robotic warehousing and cloud platforms influencing the design of such systems.

As we’ve also seen from the recent Suez canal issue and ongoing Brexit challenges, freight logistics is making waves in the news. Now is the time to learn more about technological changes that can bridge the gap between transport challenges and customer expectations.

  • What challenges face this new model of freight logistics?
  • What solutions are being adopted?
  • And how can wireless technology improve the system and accelerate adoption?
