Hyundai Investing $5B in Autonomous Driving and Robotics

Hyundai Motor Group has confirmed a major $5 billion investment to support its work in robotics, AI technologies, advanced air mobility and autonomous driving capability.There will also be further investment in Boston self-driving company, Motional. Pony.ai loses permit to test autonomous vehicles with driver in California

The California Department of Motor Vehicles revoked Pony.ai’s permit to test its autonomous vehicle technology with a driver on Tuesday for failing to monitor the driving records of the safety drivers on its testing permit. Pony confirmed the revocation of its permit to TechCrunch, saying the DMV took issue with the driving records of three of its safety operators. Read More

Small NSW town of Cudal to host largest driverless vehicle testing site in southern hemisphere

The small facility outside Cudal, in central west NSW, was once an airport and the home of what became REX Airlines. NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Sam Farraway said the investment would ensure regional NSW plays a major role in the future of driverless vehicles in Australia.Read More

This guidance also provides details of support available to businesses including:

Horizon Europe Guarantee – EIT KICs 2022 – The UK government has announced a new scheme that guarantees funding for successful applicants to the first and second wave of Horizon Europe grant awards regardless of the outcome of the UK’s efforts to associate to Horizon Europe. This funding route is to deliver the UK Government’s Horizon Europe guarantee. Specifically, it covers funding for UK partners involved in EIT-KIC activities in the 2022 calendar year. Read More 

Energy Catalyst Round 9 – Mid Stage – Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, will work with the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) as part of the Ayrton Fund to invest up to £20 million in innovation projects. The aim of this competition is to accelerate the innovations needed to create new or improved clean energy access in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia or Indo-Pacific regions. Read More

Net Zero Hydrogen Fund – Strand 2 – Capital expenditure (CAPEX) – Strand 2 of the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund will provide capital expenditure (CAPEX) support for new low carbon hydrogen production facilities to begin deployment in the early 2020s. Read More 

Net Zero Hydrogen Fund – Strand 1 Development Expenditure (DEVEX) – Strand 1 of the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund will provide development expenditure (DEVEX) support for front end engineering design (FEED) and post-FEED studies for new low carbon hydrogen production facilities. Read More 

Canada-UK Net Zero Value Chains – Transportation – UK registered businesses and Canadian SMEs can apply to collaborate on joint R&D projects that enable the transition to net zero for the automotive, rail, or maritime sectors. Read More 

UK-South Korea Collaborative R&D – The aim of this competition is to fund collaborative research and development (CR&D) projects focused on industrial research. Your proposal must include at least one partner from the UK and one partner from South Korea.
