Oxbotica signs agreement with NEVS to develop self-driving fleet

Oxbotica has teamed up with mobility experts NEVS to create a fleet of self-driving electric vehicles that could see use on public roads by the end of 2023. Oxford-based Oxbotica has signed a long-term strategic agreement with the firm in order to integrate its autonomous driving system into the NEVS ‘Sango’ vehicle.  Read More

PoliMOVE breaks world speed record for a self-driving car

192.2 mph/309.3 kph. Never before has a car driven by artificial intelligence alone been this fast. On 27 April on the straight of the Space Shuttle airstrip at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, the car created by the Politecnico di Milano-PoliMOVE broke the world speed record for a fully autonomous car on a straight, writes the Italian Technical University in a press release. Read More

Smart City start-up Route Konnect receives funding boost

Cardiff based smart city start-up Route Konnect has received £780,000 (US$1M) pre-seed equity investment led by the Development Bank of Wales. The investment will support Route Konnect’s growth ambitions by doubling the team with key technical and business operations hires, in order to bring the platform to market. Read More

Moovit adds Beep’s autonomous shuttle to trip-planning app

Israeli trip-planning app Moovit is integrating with Orlando-based autonomous shuttle startup Beep, which will allow riders to view options for taking Beep shuttles alongside other forms of transit, like buses or trains. The partnership also brings Moovit’s routing and fleet management software to Beep’s backend, technology that calculates dynamic routes, vehicle location and dispatch services. Read More

Uber eats

Uber to test delivering food with robots

Uber is the latest company to try delivering food to people’s homes with robots. The company, which has long claimed that automation is key to its future profitability, is launching two test programs to deliver Uber Eats in greater Los Angeles this month, including four-wheeled robots that roll on sidewalks for short trips as well as self-driving cars for longer distances. Read More

This guidance also provides details of support available to businesses including:

Innovate UK Smart Grants: April 2022 – UK registered organisations can apply for a share of up to £25 million for game-changing and commercially viable R&D innovation that can significantly impact the UK economy. This funding is from Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation. Read More 

Net Zero Hydrogen Fund – Strand 2 – Capital expenditure (CAPEX) – Strand 2 of the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund will provide capital expenditure (CAPEX) support for new low carbon hydrogen production facilities to begin deployment in the early 2020s. Read More 

Net Zero Hydrogen Fund – Strand 1 Development Expenditure (DEVEX) – Strand 1 of the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund will provide development expenditure (DEVEX) support for front end engineering design (FEED) and post-FEED studies for new low carbon hydrogen production facilities. Read More 

Automotive Transformation Fund Scale up Readiness Validation (SuRV) – Organisations can apply for a share of up to £15 million to validate readiness for scale up of net zero technologies and processes. These projects must produce physical production samples, of a quantity and quality which supports the case for the commercial viability of scale up in the UK. Canada-UK Net Zero Value Chains – Transportation – UK registered businesses and Canadian SMEs can apply to collaborate on joint R&D projects that enable the transition to net zero for the automotive, rail, or maritime sectors. Read More 

APC 21: Developing automotive technologies and capability for net zero – The Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) provides funding, support and insight for the development of low carbon and net zero automotive technologies. It aims to support the UK’s transition towards net zero product manufacturing and supply chain in the UK automotive sector. In this competition round APC is investing up to £25 million. Read More 

Innovation in time resilience, dissemination and application – feasibility – Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, is working with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) to invest up to £4.7 million in innovation projects that contribute to resilient time, frequency and synchronisation (TFS) and its dissemination and application. Read More

UK-South Korea Collaborative R&D – The aim of this competition is to fund collaborative research and development (CR&D) projects focused on industrial research. Your proposal must include at least one partner from the UK and one partner from South Korea. The funded projects  are expected to result in a new product, industrial process or service, be innovative, involve a technological risk, and have high market potential in the participating countries. Read More
