Following the UK government’s announcement in April 2021 that self-driving vehicles would be permitted on British roads, there has been a vast increase in the number of companies that have developed or are developing automated vehicles. Meet MAPLE, the brain that will run the UK’s autonomous naval fleet

Automotive testing consultancy Horiba Mira has announced that its Assured CAV connected and autonomous vehicle test center is now fully open. The facility has been gradually coming online over the last few months. The first elements were completed late last year. Belfast-based Angoka part of ‘game-changing’ teleoperated driving demo

BELFAST-based cybersecurity firm Angoka has announced the successful deployment of two ‘cybersecure teleoperated vehicles’ on open roads in England. The company, which specializes in deflecting cyber attacks on autonomous vehicles, took part in the demonstration at a live showcase event in London and Oxford. Read More

JD Logistics deploys delivery robots in pandemic-hit Shanghai

In response to the ongoing lockdown in Shanghai, Chinese logistics giant JD Logistics is using delivery robots for contactless delivery. The JD Logistics robots have a payload capacity of up to 100kg and a range of 80km. Being fully autonomous they use AI and a range of sensors to spot and avoid obstacles on their journeys, as well as planning their routes to the destination. Read More

FedEx Express trialling middle mile autonomous delivery drones

FedEx Express is to trial California based Elroy Air’s autonomous delivery drones for middle mile delivery between sortation stations. Elroy Air’s Chaparral autonomous air cargo system will be trialled as FedEx experiences exponential growth in its e-commerce parcels business. FedEx Express is looking at new innovations that will improve safety, efficiency and productivity. Read More

The latest Volkswagen concept car can be controlled using just your voice

Volkswagen’s newest concept autonomous car will be introduced next month, and it can be controlled using just voice and gesture controls. Called the I.D. Vizzion, the car is fully autonomous and will contain no steering wheel or visible controls, Volkswagen says. It will also be fully electric to make the car cleaner. Read More

UK-Singapore Collaborative R&D – Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, will invest up to £3 million in innovation projects in partnership with Enterprise Singapore. This competition has an open scope. The aim of this competition is to fund business led collaborative research and development (CR&D) projects focused on industrial research.
