UK MoD awards three new contracts for autonomous vehicle development
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded three contracts worth a combined GBP9 million (USD12.15 million) as part of its efforts to accelerate the development of autonomous capabilities for unmanned ‘last mile supply’ vehicles. The contracts, each worth GBP3 million, were awarded to Horiba Mira, Marlborough Comms, and Rafael. Read More

Children’s Health Plano Has An Autonomous Shuttle
At Children’s Health’s Plano campus, staff has the option to ride from their parking to the hospital in an autonomous shuttle. When construction on the campus took away some of the staff parking, employees parked in a lot half a mile from the hospital because closer lots are reserved for patients. The new lot was about half a mile from the hospital, so the health system partnered with Toyota and EasyMile to provide transportation for employees. Read More

The Toyota Research Institute (TRI) in the USA has demonstrated a new research milestone for autonomous driving, successfully programming a vehicle to autonomously drift around obstacles on a closed track.The idea behind the research is to utilize controlled, autonomous drifting to avoid accidents. Piaggio Developing Advanced Radar Technology to make bikes more visible to autonomous cars
At present, there are various passive systems in development, including one from BMW that uses marine technology in the form of golf ball-size reflectors. BMW’s idea is to fit the small reflectors on the extremities of a bike notably the bars and the ends of the axles to bounce radar waves back at the system which emitted them. Read More
