Starship Technologies receives €50M to expand fleet of autonomous delivery robots

Starship Technologies has received €50m (US$57m) from the European Investment Bank (EIB), the funding arm of the European Union, to expand its autonomous delivery robots fleet. UAE’s first driverless taxi completes initial trial phase

TXAI, the UAE’s first fully driverless taxi service, completed its initial trial phase, with more than 2,730 passengers booking the service, according to G42 subsidiary Bayanat. TXAI was the first self-driving project to be tested on a public road in the capital. WeRide, a self-driving technology provider, supplied TXAI with its full-stack software and hardware solutions, as well as operating and monitoring systems. Read More

Testing an autonomous shuttle service in cold weather

A self-driving service has begun in Finland to test autonomous vehicles in cold weather conditions including snow. Sensible 4’s service has started in Tampere, Finland, with two Toyota Proaces using the company’s autonomous technology to transport locals. The pilot is part of Tampere’s goal of smart city development. The pilot will take place over a 3.5 km long stretch with seven bus stops. Read More

Toronto’s Autonomous Shuttle Pilot Project Canceled After Supplier Shutdown

The Autonomous Shuttle Pilot Project, which was to connect one of Toronto’s Scarborough districts to GO Transit, ended before residents could get into self-driving cars. One of the reasons is that Local Motors, which supplies self-driving shuttles, has recently shut down and is no longer able to provide technical and operational support. The project planned to use the company’s Olli 2.0 self-driving car. Read More

Hyundai Mobis invests in high-resolution radar startup to accelerate Level 4 or higher autonomous driving

Hyundai Mobis announced on the 27th that it has made a strategic investment in Zendar, a Silicon Vally based startup with global competitiveness in high-resolution radar, called ‘imaging radar.’ Hyundai Mobis is the first company to invest shares in Zendar at the corporate level. Read More

SBRI – Climate and Environmental Risk Analytics for Resilient Finance: Phase 1 – This is a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competition funded by Innovate UK as a continuation of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Climate and Environmental Risk Analytics for Resilient Finance (CERAF) competition, which focussed on academic innovation. The aim of the competition is to demonstrate and deploy innovative solutions that integrate climate and environmental factors into financial services. Read More

Commercialising quantum technologies: feasibility studies round 3 – Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, will invest up to £6 million in innovation projects. Knowledge transfer partnerships (KTP): 2021 to 2022, round 5 – UK registered academic institutions, RTOs or Catapults can apply for a share of up to £8 million to fund innovation projects with businesses or not-for-profits. The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme allows a UK registered business or not-for-profit organisation to partner with a UK higher education (HE) or further education (FE) institution, RTO or Catapult (which we will refer to as the ‘knowledge base partner’). Read More
