TuSimple and DHL Supply Chain have entered a global partnership to adopt, integrate and scale TuSimple’s autonomous trucking technology into DHL’s logistics operations. NavInfo secures autonomous driving service, mapping contracts from Volvo Cars

NavInfo will perform environment constructions for Volvo Cars’ autonomous driving function verification platform and provide corresponding autonomous driving data collection, process, and services in the next three years. New tech gives autonomous cars ‘x-ray’ like vision

As a recent press release on Springwise notes, the new tech uses “intelligent roadside units”. The units, which are on tall poles, house various sensors such as cameras and “light detection and ranging,” a.k.a. lidar. The IRSUs, along with vision systems in participant autonomous cars, all share information with each other. That allows any singular vehicle to have access to points of view other than its own. Read More

Samsung rolls out chips for self-driving cars

Samsung Electronics said it has begun mass-producing cutting-edge memory chips for an undisclosed auto manufacturer to power a range of connected features including autonomous driving. The newest lineup of chips includes 2-gigabyte GDDR6 graphic dynamic random access memory chips, as well as 128-gigabyte universal flash storage. Motional to launch autonomous food deliveries for Uber customers

Autonomous vehicle technology company Motional have entered into a new partnership to launch autonomous food deliveries for Uber customers in Santa Monica, California. Motional’s EVs will start delivering specific meal kits from select restaurants. The collaboration represents Uber’s first partnership with an autonomous vehicle fleet provider. Read More

Mobileye Autonomous Cars Piloting in Paris

Mobileye, an Intel company, is adding Paris to its rapidly expanding global autonomous vehicle (AV) testing program and announcing its first autonomous on-demand service in the city of Paris, in collaboration with RATP Group, the world’s third-largest public transportation operator. Mobileye has obtained an AV testing permit to allow the company to drive its autonomous robotaxis. Read More

Virtual Study Group: Post Covid-19 Recovery – Communities of the Future: January 12th, 2022 – This three-day study group will explore some challenges arising from the Covid-19 pandemic faced by local authorities. The next session will be a three-day event between the 12th-14th January 2022 on the topics of Recovery from the Pandemic: Future Communities. The future of Drone Automation in Industry: January 27th, 2022 – As part of the DfT funder Drone Pathfinder Catalyst programme, Connected Places Catapult has been engaging across industry sectors to unlock the productivity and safety benefits that drone solutions offer. In this event, there will be demonstration and networking morning, aimed at showcasing the future of automated drone use in infrastructure, construction and security. SafeMRX Showcase: February 7th, 2022 – Join this event on 24th February for presentations on how Minimum Risk Manoeuvres should contribute to AV safety. The SafeMRX project has explored how MRMs and MRCs (collectively referred to as MRX) should fit into the safety case for CAVs, and has proposed several new safety concepts to support this. The types of MRM and the circumstances that they should be performed in have been defined in more detail, and additionally the project has proposed a risk assessment methodology covering MRX behaviour. Register Here

Knowledge transfer partnerships (KTP): 2021 to 2022, round 5 – UK registered academic institutions, RTOs or Catapults can apply for a share of up to £8 million to fund innovation projects with businesses or not-for-profits. The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme allows a UK registered business or not-for-profit organisation to partner with a UK higher education (HE) or further education (FE) institution, RTO or Catapult (which we will refer to as the ‘knowledge base partner’). Read More

Circular economy for SMEs – innovating with the NICER programme – This funding forms part of the UKRI National Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Research programme (NICER), enabling SMEs to engage with and benefit from access to expertise at five research centres via collaborative research and development (CR&D) activities.
