Roo dodging smart ute hits the road for testing

The world’s first driverless ute is one step closer to reality, with the Ford Ranger now retrofitted with automated driving capabilities as it enters the next trial phase on Dubbo streets. “The Smart Ute uses drive-by-wire technology fitted with radars and cameras to collect data to allow it to drive mapped distances on the road and recognise and respond to a variety of obstacles, including kangaroos,” Mr Toole said. Read More

Mercedes Gets International Approval For Level 3 Autonomous Tech

Level 2 autonomous driving systems such as Audi launched its A8 with Level 3 capability a few years ago. Capability doesn’t mean it’s ready for prime time in a legal sense, but it seems Level 3 tech at Mercedes-Benz is ready to go. The automaker is the first to gain an “internationally valid system approval” for a Level 3 system for the new S-Class and EQS. Read More

Pony.ai Begins Autonomous Driving Public Road Testing in Shenzhen

Pony.ai, announced it has received a permit to conduct road tests in Shenzhen. This permission enables Pony.ai to begin public road testing in Shenzhen, marking a significant milestone for the company’s newly-opened Shenzhen research & development center. With the addition of Shenzhen, Pony.ai is now testing Robotaxi services in China. Read More

Smart ute developed and ready for the next trial phase

The Ford Ranger has been retrofitted with automated driving capabilities to become the world’s first driverless Smart Ute. The vehicle has entered the next trial phase on Dubbo streets in NSW. A partnership between Transport for NSW, autonomous vehicle company Conigital, NRMA, Dubbo Bus Lines, Sydney Motorsport Park, mobile app developer Liftango, QBE and Dubbo Regional Council brought this trial about. Read More

Argo AI Releases Technical Guidelines for Autonomous Vehicles and Bicyclists

Argo AI, an autonomous vehicle technology developer that is working with Ford Motor Co., released the technical guidelines it applies to ensure safe interactions between autonomous vehicles and cyclists. Together they outlined six technical guidelines for the manner in which a self-driving system should accurately detect cyclists, predict cyclist behavior. Read More

GM exec: Cruise to start autonomous taxi service next year

General Motors’ Cruise autonomous vehicle subsidiary plans to start running a fully autonomous taxi service in San Francisco next year. Doug Parks, GM’s product development and purchasing chief, told analysts Thursday that he has ridden in a Cruise vehicle with no driver and the company is very close to deploying the service. Read More

The future of Drone Automation in Industry: January 27th, 2022 – As part of the DfT funder Drone Pathfinder Catalyst programme, Connected Places Catapult has been engaging across industry sectors to unlock the productivity and safety benefits that drone solutions offer. In this event, there will be demonstration and networking morning, aimed at showcasing the future of automated drone use in infrastructure, construction and security. SafeMRX Showcase: February 7th, 2022 – Join this event on 24th February for presentations on how Minimum Risk Manoeuvres should contribute to AV safety. The SafeMRX project has explored how MRMs and MRCs (collectively referred to as MRX) should fit into the safety case for CAVs, and has proposed several new safety concepts to support this. The types of MRM and the circumstances that they should be performed in have been defined in more detail, and additionally the project has proposed a risk assessment methodology covering MRX behaviour. Register Here
