Autonomous vehicle corridor plans released for Michigan

Plans to construct a corridor for autonomous vehicles have been released by the Michigan Department of Transportation who has joined hands with Aecom for the project that will span from Detroit to Ann Arbor. Cavnue, which is sponsored by Alphabet, Google’s parent firm, launched a 24-month research last August into the possibility of renovating 40 miles of Interstate 94 and Michigan Avenue. Read More

Swedish self-driving start-up Einride expands into U.S. market

Swedish electric self-driving truck start-up Einride said on Wednesday it has launched operations in the U.S. market and signed up GE Appliances, Swedish vegan milk maker and Oatly and tiremaker Bridgestone as customers. The company has already started operating a fleet of 20 Einride Pods – its electric self-driving truck without a driver cabin. Read More

Walmart is using fully driverless trucks to ramp up its online grocery business

Walmart said that it has started using fully driverless trucking in its online grocery business, aiming to increase capacity and reduce inefficiencies. Walmart and Gatik said that, since August, they’ve operated two autonomous box trucks without a safety driver on a 7-mile loop daily for 12 hours. The Gatik trucks are loaded with online grocery orders. Read More

Local Motors selects Ouster lidar for its next-generation autonomous shuttles

Ouster, a provider of high-resolution digital lidar sensors, has signed a strategic customer agreement with electric autonomous vehicle company, Local Motors. The agreement includes a binding commitment for over one thousand OS digital lidar sensors through 2023 and a non-binding forecast of over 20,000 sensors through 2025. Read More

Waymo self-driving vehicles will begin mapping NYC’s streets

Waymo’s self-driving cars will make an appearance in New York City. The company is a long way from testing or launching its autonomous vehicles commercially in the city. Instead, Waymo announced plans to manually drive its vehicles to map areas of the densely populated city and then use all of that data to advance its technology. Read More

S. Korea breaks ground for high-speed level 3 autonomous technology testbed

South Korea has broken the ground for the construction of a testbed area in reclaimed land near the southwestern port city of Gunsan. The testbed will be used for the research and development of high-speed autonomous driving technologies. Self-driving cars with level 3 autonomous drive technologies or higher levels will be developed at the test area. Read More

SBRI UK National Robotics Proving Ground: Feasibility studies – This is a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competition funded by Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), to support the development of the UK’s National Robotics Proving Ground. The outputs from this short competition, will inform UKRI what type of facilities can be developed with capital infrastructure funding and the scale of the funding required. Read More

Future flight challenge phase 3: strand 2 – The aim of this competition is to fund projects that will deliver the 2024 vision of the Future Flight Challenge and position the UK as a leader in the third revolution of aviation. This competition will build on the success of the 2020 Phase 2 competition and will focus primarily on the demonstration aspects of these novel air vehicles and systems. In Strand 2 projects must focus on developing enabling technologies and cross-cutting systems that support the deployment of these novel air vehicles in UK airspace. Read More
