Dubai to issue rules for driverless cars next year, says official

Dubai is set to become one of the first cities to issue regulations for the commercial use of autonomous vehicles next year, a senior official of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said. In April this year, the RTA signed an agreement with the US-based autonomous car manufacturer Cruise. The first set of self-driving cars will hit Dubai’s roads in 2023. Read More

Tesla removes Full Self-Driving beta update

Tesla’s ‘Full Self-Driving’ (FSD) beta update has been removed from its vehicles, according to new reports from sources including Reuters. The optional technology package – which uses in-built cameras located around the car to identify obstacles, and predict scenarios accordingly – is still in the development stages, however Tesla claims it will eventually permit wholly autonomous driving. Read More

UK’s Ocado Invests In Wayve For Autonomous Grocery Deliveries

British online grocer Ocado is investing 10 million pounds in self-driving technology startup Wayve and a partnership to develop autonomous grocery deliveries that can handle traffic on busy city streets. Wayve’s technology will be used in an autonomous delivery trial using a number of Ocado delivery vans on busy London routes, with a human driver overseeing the tests. Read More

Ford delays software updates for its ‘hands-free’ BlueCruise driver assist

BlueCruise, the “hands-free” driver assist feature that Ford, won’t receive any over-the-air software updates until 2022, the company’s executives said Wednesday night. The automaker had originally planned on pushing its first OTA software updates for select Ford customers before the end of 2021. “We wanted to improve the customer experience,” Farley said. GE and Einride unveil first autonomous and electric truck operating on US soil

GE Appliances and Swedish freight technology company Einride announced the debut of what they say is the first autonomous and electric truck to operate on US soil this week.  Einride has been operating internationally since 2019 but will bring its autonomous Pods to the US for the first time on GE Appliances’ 750-acre Appliance Park campus in Louisville, Kentucky. Read More

DHL Supply Chain Partners with Autonomous Software Leader Embark to Deploy Fleet

Embark Trucks, Inc., announced that DHL Supply Chain, the North American contract logistics leader within Deutsche Post DHL, is a member of the Partner Development Program and is part of the initial cohort that participated in Embark’s ongoing reservation program, which counts over 14,200 reservations to date. Read More

Aurora taps Pixar veterans to make a more realistic virtual world for testing

Aurora, scheduled to make its debut on Nasdaq next week, is turning to a team of Pixar veterans to help make the computer simulation tool used to test and train its self-driving system more like the real world. The three-person computer graphic imagery startup Colrspace, which has been operating in stealth, is joining Aurora’s perception team. Read More

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, is investing up to £25 million in the best game-changing and commercially viable innovative or disruptive ideas. Future flight challenge phase 3: strand 2 – The aim of this competition is to fund projects that will deliver the 2024 vision of the Future Flight Challenge and position the UK as a leader in the third revolution of aviation. This competition will build on the success of the 2020 Phase 2 competition and will focus primarily on the demonstration aspects of these novel air vehicles and systems. In Strand 2 projects must focus on developing enabling technologies and cross-cutting systems that support the deployment of these novel air vehicles in UK airspace. Read More
