Tesla’s ‘Full Self-Driving’ mode finally lands for regular owners 

Tesla took its Full Self-Driving car mode out of the early access program. If you are one of the Tesla owners with a perfect safety score, you’re in luck, as Tesla just unlocked access to its “Full Self-Driving Beta” feature. Previously restricted to the curated few, the FSD Beta update rollout marks a watershed moment for Tesla’s autonomous e-mobility aspirations. Read More

University unveils its own autonomous vehicle

A state-of-the-art autonomous vehicle called the Auto-Pod has been launched at Aston University this week to coincide with Birmingham Tech Week. The autonomous vehicle, funded by the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership and Institute of Technology, will be able to operate itself and will enable students to learn more about the future of travel through technology. Read More

Hyundai Motor to launch self-driving tech test bed

Hyundai Motor is to open a self-driving technology test bed at its R&D Center to speed up development.  It has been setting up the infrastructure needed for researchers to try out different autonomous driving technologies at its Namyang R&D Center. Located in Hwaseong, the Namyang center is the main research institute for Hyundai Motor Group’s automotive affiliates, Hyundai and Kia. Read More

Baidu, Pony.ai greenlighted driverless road test in Beijing 

On 15 october, autonomous driving developers Baidu and Pony.ai were granted the first batch of driverless road test permits in the newly opened autonomous driving testing zone, in Beijing’s intelligent connected vehicle policy pilot zone. The pilot zone is located in Yizhuang District, covering 20 square kilometers, and offers over 100 kilometers of autonomous driving testing roads. Read More

Driverless vehicle company expands footprint in Southern Nevada

After testing its driverless vehicles in the Las Vegas Valley, Motional is doubling down on its operations in the area. Over recent years, the autonomous vehicle technology company has provided more than 100,000 public rides via its partnership with ride-hailing giant Lyft, while also conducting important tests of driverless cars in Southern Nevada. Read More

Mobility firms join hands to launch autonomous driving association

Private and public stakeholders in the development of self-driving cars have established the Korea Autonomous Industry Association in order to better prepare for the coming new mobility era. Some 30 government officials and company executives attended the launching ceremony held in Yeouido, Seoul, including Park Jin-kyu, the vice minister for industry. Read More

Uisee to further tap self-driving with new smart vehicles, solutions

Leading Chinese autonomous driving firm Uisee unveiled its latest L4-level unmanned delivery vehicles and smart solutions recently, as self-driving commercialization is revving up in the country with faster-than-expected driverless applications. As of now, the total commercial mileage of Uisee’s unmanned self-driving vehicles has exceeded 900,000 KM. Read More

Autonomous trucking startup Locomation to collaborate with Indiana company

Locomation, an autonomous trucking company based in Lawrenceville, is collaborating with Cummins to test, integrate and commercialize its self-driving technology. Locomation will integrate its software with Cummins’ powertrain systems. The Columbus, Ind., company designs, manufactures, sells and services engines and power generation products. Read More

SBRI UK National Robotics Proving Ground: Feasibility studies – This is a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competition funded by Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), to support the development of the UK’s National Robotics Proving Ground. The outputs from this short competition, will inform UKRI what type of facilities can be developed with capital infrastructure funding and the scale of the funding required. Read More

Future flight challenge phase 3: strand 2 – The aim of this competition is to fund projects that will deliver the 2024 vision of the Future Flight Challenge and position the UK as a leader in the third revolution of aviation. This competition will build on the success of the 2020 Phase 2 competition and will focus primarily on the demonstration aspects of these novel air vehicles and systems. In Strand 2 projects must focus on developing enabling technologies and cross-cutting systems that support the deployment of these novel air vehicles in UK airspace. Read More 

Future flight challenge phase 3: strand 1 – The aim of this competition is to fund projects that will deliver the 2024 vision of the Future Flight Challenge and position the UK as a leader in the third revolution of aviation. This competition will build on the success of the 2020 Phase 2 competition and will focus primarily on the demonstration aspects of these novel air vehicles and systems. In Strand 1, projects must focus on the demonstration aspects of novel classes of electric or autonomous air vehicles and systems. Read More
