Tesla Moves Forward With Full Self-Driving Beta Tests

Tesla has moved forward with its plan to offer its Full Self-Driving feature as a semi-public beta to people who meet certain requirements despite concerns about the safety of the software. Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that his company planned to expand the availability of its FSD software, which it previously offered to just a portion of its customers as an increasingly expensive add-on. Read More

Meet the dinky, driverless shuttles now shuffling people around Rochester

The vehicles made their service debut this week, and for the next 12 months they will scooch riders along a 1.5-mile loop in downtown Rochester. Rides on the Med City Movers are free, with the shuttles navigating real-world traffic conditions as they putter between two stops (the Gonda Building on Center Street and the People’s Food Co-op on 6th Street). Read More

UW researchers developing safe autonomous vehicles

Researchers at the University of Waterloo have teamed up with the federal government and Magna International to develop safe autonomous vehicles. The researchers plan to develop software for automated vehicles, including adaptive cruise control and steering. They said the goal is to have the vehicle do more driving, while keeping safety and security top of monad. Read More

Kodiak Builds Flexible, High-Performance Self-Driving Trucks on NVIDIA DRIVE

Autonomous trucks need to lighten the load when it comes to mapping, while still perceiving their surrounding environments reliably. That’s the approach Kodiak Robotics, a Silicon Valley-based self-driving truck startup, is taking to deploy safer and more efficient delivery and logistics. Cruise and Waymo Get Permits for Autonomous Driving Services in California

Cruise LLC, majority owned by General Motors Co., and Alphabet Inc.’s Waymo have received permits to charge for autonomous vehicle services in California, advancing the efforts of both companies to build a robo-taxi business. The permit issued to Cruise lets the company charge for driverless freight services in parts of San Francisco. Read More

Locomation, a leading provider of autonomous truck technology solutions, and Aon plc today announced a collaboration to develop a risk management plan as Locomation develops its autonomous freight transport technology and backend platform for commercial deployment to trucking companies and shippers. Read More

Toyota buys software company and prepares entry into autonomous car sector

Toyota does not want to be left behind and, with an eye on the movement of competitors in the autonomous car segment, it also decided to move so as not to lose market in the future. This Tuesday (24), the Japanese automaker announced that Woven Planet Holdings, a subsidiary of the brand in Silicon Valley, closed the purchase of Renovo Motors. Read More

Industrial Energy Transformation Fund Phase 2 Competition Briefing: October 6th, 2021 – The Phase 2 competition for England, Wales and Northern Ireland  opens on the 27th September 2021 and runs until 6th December and is worth up to £60 million in funding. The briefing webinar will include an opportunity to hear about the scope of the competitions in more detail and how to apply, hear from industrial site owners who were funded in Phase 1 and hear about the IETF support and information services available for businesses. Register Here

SBRI – Digital transformation of Hanoi Metro Line 5, Vietnam – This is a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competition funded by Innovate UK and jointly delivered by Innovate UK and Crossrail International with support from the Department of International Trade in Vietnam. The aim of the competition is to support organisations to undertake feasibility studies, that demonstrate how innovation can support Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB) with their digital transformation. Read More 

SBRI Global Rail Export Innovation for Australia, Canada and India – This is a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competition funded by Innovate UK and jointly delivered by Innovate UK and the Department for International Trade. The aim of the competition is to support organisations to undertake feasibility studies to demonstrate innovative railway technology solutions for overseas markets. Future flight challenge phase 3: strand 2 – The aim of this competition is to fund projects that will deliver the 2024 vision of the Future Flight Challenge and position the UK as a leader in the third revolution of aviation. This competition will build on the success of the 2020 Phase 2 competition and will focus primarily on the demonstration aspects of these novel air vehicles and systems. In Strand 2 projects must focus on developing enabling technologies and cross-cutting systems that support the deployment of these novel air vehicles in UK airspace. Read More 

Future flight challenge phase 3: strand 1 – The aim of this competition is to fund projects that will deliver the 2024 vision of the Future Flight Challenge and position the UK as a leader in the third revolution of aviation. This competition will build on the success of the 2020 Phase 2 competition and will focus primarily on the demonstration aspects of these novel air vehicles and systems. In Strand 1, projects must focus on the demonstration aspects of novel classes of electric or autonomous air vehicles and systems. Read More
