The IAA mobility show opens for the first time in Munich

Oxbotica and AppliedEV to develop fully autonomous multi-purpose vehicle
Oxbotica and AppliedEV have announced a collaboration to develop a fully autonomous, multi-purpose electric vehicle capable of being deployed in a wide range of environments for a variety of commercial applications. The project will see Oxbotica integrate its autonomous vehicle software with AppliedEV’s programmable and configurable EV platform. Read More

WeRide unveils L4 Robovan to make foray into smart urban logistics

Honda to start testing self-driving car service in Japan
Honda has just announced that it will be starting a trial programme for autonomous vehicles in Japan, which will take place in Utsunomiya City and Haga Town in the Tochigi Prefecture. The move is a step towards realising an autonomous vehicle mobility service (Maas) business in the country, which Honda is planning to launch together with Cruise (a developer for self-driving cars) and General Motors. China welcomes world’s largest scenario database for autonomous vehicle safety
The Safety PoolTM Scenario Database, the largest public repository of scenarios for testing autonomous vehicles in the world — led by WMG at the University of Warwick and Deepen AI — will now be used in China, thanks to a new partnership with Automotive Data of China, a subsidiary of the China Automotive Technology and Research Center. L.A. Is Getting An Autonomous Taxi Test Fleet Of Hyundai Ioniq 5s
Motional has expanded its operations into Southern California. According a report from the L.A. Times, Motional is bringing a fleet of driverless Hyundais to L.A. Even if autonomous cars haven’t proven themselves to be safe enough for prime time yet, at least this startup is basing its effort on a car that actually looks good. Read More

Russian tech firm Yandex to test self-driving taxis in Moscow this year
Adventurous Muscovites may soon be able to travel around parts of Moscow in driverless taxis as Russian tech giant Yandex plans to start testing the autonomous vehicles in the city this year. Robotaxis will available through the company’s Yandex.Go application in one Moscow district for certain customers, Yandex said in a statement. Read More

Mobileye to launch pilot scheme for autonomous taxis in Tel Aviv, Munich in 2022
Intel Corporation’s Mobileye, will roll out a pilot for autonomous taxis and ride-hailing services in Munich and Tel Aviv next year, pending regulatory approval, in collaboration with German-headquartered international car rental and mobility service giant Sixt SE. The announcement was made by Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger at the annual IAA Mobility 2021 conference. Read More

Funding Calls & Opportunities
Digital Connectivity Infrastructure Accelerator – The accelerated rollout of advanced wireless networks, including 5G, will bring benefits to the UK economy and communities across the country. As the next major milestone in the DCIA project DCMS will allocate up to £4 million of funding to pilots which support the implementation of digital asset management solutions to open up public assets for the rollout of wireless communication networks. Future flight challenge phase 3: strand 2 – The aim of this competition is to fund projects that will deliver the 2024 vision of the Future Flight Challenge and position the UK as a leader in the third revolution of aviation. This competition will build on the success of the 2020 Phase 2 competition and will focus primarily on the demonstration aspects of these novel air vehicles and systems. In Strand 2 projects must focus on developing enabling technologies and cross-cutting systems that support the deployment of these novel air vehicles in UK airspace. Read More

Women in Innovation Awards 2021/22: Round 13 – The aim of this competition is to find women with exciting, innovative ideas and ambitious plans that will inspire others. The awards are for female founders, co-founders or senior decision makers working in businesses that have been operating for at least one year. Applicants must be confident, with the support of an award, that they can make a significant contribution to a pressing societal, environmental or economic challenge through their innovative project.
