Yandex purchases Uber’s stake in delivery and self-driving businesses
Russian search engine and ridehailing company Yandex has announced that it will buy out Uber in some of the joint ventures the two giants share, including its food and grocery delivery services, in a $1 billion deal. Yandex will also get an extension of the current license for the exclusive right to use the Uber brand in Russia and certain other countries until August 2030. Read More

Apple patents a new system for autonomous cars
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) public this Tuesday a patent from Apple, on an advanced display system of an autonomous car that would allow to show information to the other actors of the road traffic about the next maneuvers of that vehicle. The document, titled ‘Alert system and outdoor lighting‘, details that this technology is based on screens located in the front and rear of the car. Read More

Beijing takes aim at algorithms, Xiaomi automates electric cars
The biggest news of the week again comes from Beijing’s ongoing effort to dampen the influence of the country’s tech giants. Regulators are now going after the exploitative use of algorithm-powered user recommendations. Xiaomi is acquiring an autonomous vehicle startup called Deepmotion, and ByteDance is said to be buying virtual reality hardware startup Pico. Read More

SBRI – Digital transformation of Hanoi Metro Line 5, Vietnam – This is a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) competition funded by Innovate UK and jointly delivered by Innovate UK and Crossrail International with support from the Department of International Trade in Vietnam. Future flight challenge phase 3: strand 2 – The aim of this competition is to fund projects that will deliver the 2024 vision of the Future Flight Challenge and position the UK as a leader in the third revolution of aviation. This competition will build on the success of the 2020 Phase 2 competition and will focus primarily on the demonstration aspects of these novel air vehicles and systems. In Strand 2 projects must focus on developing enabling technologies and cross-cutting systems that support the deployment of these novel air vehicles in UK airspace. Read More
Future flight challenge phase 3: strand 1 – The aim of this competition is to fund projects that will deliver the 2024 vision of the Future Flight Challenge and position the UK as a leader in the third revolution of aviation.
