Baidu and BAIC Group Collaborate to Launch Apollo Moon Robotaxis

Baidu, Inc.is partnering with BAIC Group’s EV brand ARCFOX to jointly release Apollo Moon, a new generation of robotaxis that are set to be mass-produced. Remarkably only one third of the cost of average L4 autonomous vehicles, Apollo Moon is a monumental milestone in the large-scale commercialization of fully autonomous ride-hailing services in the smart transportation industry. Read More

Hyundai Motor chief tests self-driving Ioniq 5 EV during US visit

Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Euisun has visited an autonomous vehicle joint venture in the United States and tested a vehicle under development as the South Korean automaking giant explores new business opportunities in future mobility solutions. The chairman made his first visit to Motional since Hyundai Motor and US mobility startup Aptiv formed a $4 billion joint venture in March 2020. Read More

FedEx to test Nuro’s robot cars for package delivery

FedEx says it will test package deliveries using autonomous vehicles under a new multi-year partnership with Nuro, a leading self-driving startup. The explosion of e-commerce has accelerated demand for reliable, autonomous transportation throughout the supply chain, FedEx says. With Nuro, it will explore different uses for AVs, including multi-stop and appointment-based deliveries. Read More

Self-driving truck firm TuSimple opens new facility at AllianceTexas

Autonomous trucking firm TuSimple has opened a new facility in the AllianceTexas Mobility Innovation Zone that it says will help it meet the “growing demand of shippers” that want to add reliable, autonomous trucking logistics to their operations. The San Diego-based company was valued at $8.5 billion after a recent initial public offering that raised $1 billion in capital. Read More

Eager to take self-driving reliability and accuracy to the next level, Sensible 4 and Panasonic Industry Europe now announced a joint test project levering the synergies between Sensible 4’s proven self-driving software and the benefits of Panasonic Industry’s unrivalled IMU. Specialists of both companies shortly will kick off an extensive evaluation period with plenty of tests and analyses. Read More

China’s Amazon for Autonomous Driving Data

Thanks to e-commerce, the world has gotten used to buying all sorts of daily necessities online. Automakers in China will soon be afforded the same convenience, with the ability to purchase must-have autonomous driving data from a central repository. For that, credit must go the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, which has been working on a Vehicle Data Platform with industry players for the past three years. Self-driving trucks startup Kodiak Robotics snags investment, partnership from Bridgestone

Tire-making giant Bridgestone has taken a minority stake in Kodiak Robotics, the Silicon Valley-based startup developing autonomous trucks, as part of a broader partnership to test and develop smart tire technology. While the terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, Kodiak Robotics co-founder and CEO Don Burnette told TechCrunch that this is a direct financial investment. Read More

Knowledge transfer partnerships (KTP): 2021 to 2022, round 2 – UK registered academic institutions, RTOs or Catapults can apply for a share of up to £6 million to fund innovation projects with businesses or not-for-profits. This new partnership brings new skills and the latest academic thinking into the business partner to deliver a specific, strategic innovation project. The knowledge base partner will recruit 1 or 2 graduates (known as ‘associates’) to work on the project. Each application must be led by a knowledge base, working with a business partner. Read More

IETF deployment of energy efficiency technologies, Spring 2021-  This competition aims to support the commercial roll out and permanent installation of technologies at industrial sites. This is the second round of the IETF Phase 1 competition. In this strand you must be an industrial business of any size to apply. You can apply on your own or in collaboration with other organisations. Your project must take place at a manufacturing site or data centre in England, Wales or Northern Ireland and be led by the operator of that site. Read More
