Driverless shuttles take to Cambridge’s roads in pioneering trial
Driverless shuttles will take to the roads of Cambridge this week in the UK’s first autonomous vehicle trial allowing the vehicles to share roads with motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Three shuttles developed by Aurrigo, , will carry up to three passengers in each vehicle along a two-mile route mapped between Cambridge’s Park and Ride site on Madingley Road and the University of Cambridge’s West Campus. Germany gives greenlight to driverless vehicles on public roads

Trials of robot submarines at Loch Ness will turn the tide for future ocean missions
The team from the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) will pilot the state-of-the-art Autosub Long Range (ALR) vehicle to ensure its capabilities are ready for scientific deployments anywhere in the ocean. Experts said the trials are a major milestone for Oceanids, a Marine Autonomous Systems (MAS) development programme led by NOC and funded by UK Government which runs until March 2022. Read More

Pony.ai Becomes Eighth Firm Allowed to Test Driverless Cars in California
Pony.ai, an autonomous vehicle startup that splits its operations between China and the U.S., has received approval to test its driverless cars in three Californian cities, winning another vote of confidence for technology. SAE classifies autonomous driving into six levels from Level 0 to Level 5, with the top-level technology enabling a car to run independent of human intervention. Read More

Self-driving truck startup Kodiak partnering with SK Group to expand into Asia
Kodiak Robotics, the U.S.-based self-driving truck startup, is partnering with South Korean conglomerate SK to explore the possibility of deploying its autonomous vehicle technology in Asia. Kodiak will examine how it can use SK’s products, components and technology for its autonomous system, including artificial intelligence microprocessors and advanced emergency braking systems. Baidu To Operate 3,000 Driverless Apollo Go Robotaxis in 30 Cities in 3 Years
Since late 2020, Baidu has been conducting autonomous test drives in Beijing without safety drivers. They were only connected to a command center via the city’s 5G network. Up to ten Apollo Go taxis simultaneously drive in an area of around 1.1 square mile. In Shougang Park in western Beijing there are eight fixed stops at which people can get on after booking a ride via the app. Read More

Your project must aim to develop new products, processes or services which are significantly ahead of anything similar in the field. Knowledge transfer partnerships (KTP): 2021 to 2022, round 2 – UK registered academic institutions, RTOs or Catapults can apply for a share of up to £6 million to fund innovation projects with businesses or not-for-profits. This new partnership brings new skills and the latest academic thinking into the business partner to deliver a specific, strategic innovation project. The knowledge base partner will recruit 1 or 2 graduates (known as ‘associates’) to work on the project. Each application must be led by a knowledge base, working with a business partner. Read More
Innovation in time dissemination and application – UK registered organisations can apply for a share of up to £2 million for business-led innovation in resilient time, frequency and synchronisation. This funding is from the Strategic Priorities Fund (SPF). Your proposal must deliver a feasibility study for an innovative development and demonstrate a route to market. This is the first of two associated competitions funded from the Strategic Priorities Fund (SPF) as part of the National Timing Centre programme, led by NPL. Read More
Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition – Strand 2 – The aim of this competition is to support the design and development of technologies for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by the UK’s maritime sector as set out in the Clean Maritime Plan and support the transition to Net Zero by 2050. Driving the Electric Revolution: Supply Chains for Net Zero – UK registered businesses of any size can apply for a share of up to £22 million for innovation projects focused on supply chain development for power electronics, electric machines and drives. IETF energy efficiency and decarbonisation studies, Spring 2021- Organisations can apply for a share of up to £40 million to carry out feasibility and engineering studies into energy efficiency and decarbonisation technologies for industrial processes. This competition is open to single applicants and collaborations. Read More
IETF deployment of energy efficiency technologies, Spring 2021- This competition aims to support the commercial roll out and permanent installation of technologies at industrial sites. This is the second round of the IETF Phase 1 competition. In this strand you must be an industrial business of any size to apply. You can apply on your own or in collaboration with other organisations. Your project must take place at a manufacturing site or data centre in England, Wales or Northern Ireland and be led by the operator of that site. Read More
