U.K. clears the way for autonomous cars on roadways
The United Kingdom is now the first nation to regulate the use of self-driving cars on its roadways, with the first autonomous vehicles hitting the pavement as early as this year, the Department for Transport announced on April 28. ALKS uses sensors to enable a vehicle to drive itself in a single lane and maintains the ability to return control to the driver when needed. Read More

Apple cuts the number of drivers for its self-driving cars in half
As reported by MacReports, Apple has increased its fleet of self-driving cars while decreasing the number of drivers. According to the report, Apple has actually cut the number of drivers in half. we have learned that Apple has increased its number of self-driving cars and decreased the number of drivers licensed to drive those cars by almost half. This is the first increase to their autonomous car fleet since August 2019. Read More

Germany passes its bill on autonomous driving with supervision
Germany is getting into autonomous driving. The Germans have already approved the autonomous driving bill, which was being developed in recent months. The Government will also lay the groundwork for setting specific standards for level 4. The German Parliament has approved the autonomous driving bill, making it the first European country, and almost in the world, to have adapted legislation to this advanced technology. Read More

Chinese startup Pony.ai can now test driverless vehicles in three California cities
Chinese robotaxi startup Pony.ai has been given permission by California regulators to pilot its autonomous vehicles without a human safety driver behind the wheel in three cities. Pony is the eighth company to be issued a driverless testing permit in the state, a list that includes Chinese companies AutoX, Baidu and WeRide as well as U.S. businesses Cruise, Nuro, Waymo and Zoox. Toyota Teams Up With Intel on Self-Driving Vehicles
Japanese giant Toyota Motor Corp. is upping its autonomous driving efforts by working with Intel Corp.’s Mobileye to develop self-driving safety systems. Toyota has selected Jerusalem-based self-driving tech developer Mobileye, which was acquired by Intel in 2017, along with German auto-parts maker ZF Friedrichshafen AG, to develop the advanced driver-assistance systems for Toyota’s future cars, according to a released Intel statement. Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, is investing up to £25 million in the best game-changing and commercially viable innovative or disruptive ideas. Knowledge transfer partnerships (KTP): 2021 to 2022, round 2 – UK registered academic institutions, RTOs or Catapults can apply for a share of up to £6 million to fund innovation projects with businesses or not-for-profits. This new partnership brings new skills and the latest academic thinking into the business partner to deliver a specific, strategic innovation project. The knowledge base partner will recruit 1 or 2 graduates (known as ‘associates’) to work on the project. Each application must be led by a knowledge base, working with a business partner. Read More
Innovation in time dissemination and application – UK registered organisations can apply for a share of up to £2 million for business-led innovation in resilient time, frequency and synchronisation. This funding is from the Strategic Priorities Fund (SPF). Your proposal must deliver a feasibility study for an innovative development and demonstrate a route to market. This is the first of two associated competitions funded from the Strategic Priorities Fund (SPF) as part of the National Timing Centre programme, led by NPL. Read More
Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition – Strand 2 – The aim of this competition is to support the design and development of technologies for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by the UK’s maritime sector as set out in the Clean Maritime Plan and support the transition to Net Zero by 2050. Driving the Electric Revolution: Supply Chains for Net Zero – UK registered businesses of any size can apply for a share of up to £22 million for innovation projects focused on supply chain development for power electronics, electric machines and drives. IETF energy efficiency and decarbonisation studies, Spring 2021- Organisations can apply for a share of up to £40 million to carry out feasibility and engineering studies into energy efficiency and decarbonisation technologies for industrial processes. This competition is open to single applicants and collaborations. Read More
IETF deployment of energy efficiency technologies, Spring 2021- This competition aims to support the commercial roll out and permanent installation of technologies at industrial sites. This is the second round of the IETF Phase 1 competition. In this strand you must be an industrial business of any size to apply. You can apply on your own or in collaboration with other organisations. Your project must take place at a manufacturing site or data centre in England, Wales or Northern Ireland and be led by the operator of that site. Read More
