Motional is testing fully autonomous vehicle in Las Vegas
Add Motional to the very short list of companies that have tested fully autonomous vehicles on public roads. Motional is allowed to test anywhere in Las Vegas, but is keeping its vehicles in residential areas for now. And the company has only tested its vehicles during the daytime. Motional is unique insofar as it sought a safety evaluation from an independent third party prior to conducting its fully autonomous testing. Read More

Aurrigo launches autonomous luggage and cargo carrier
Aurrigo has unveiled its Auto-Dolly, which moves luggage and cargo around indoor and outdoor settings without human operators. The vehicles can navigate autonomously from one task to another, collecting and dropping off items automatically using a powered roller deck. Read More

The Autonomous Saildrone Surveyor Preps for Its Sea Voyage
The robo-vessel will map the ocean floor, and its solar-powered sensors will sample fish DNA and collect climate data. The 72-foot-long vessel is launching this week into the bay from its dock at a former naval base in Alameda, California. It is designed to spend months at sea mapping the seafloor with powerful sonar devices, while simultaneously scanning the ocean surface for genetic material to identify fish and other marine organisms swimming below. Toyota Motor Corporation has started work to build an entire town from scratch and use it as a laboratory for cutting-edge technology such as self-driving cars and artificial intelligence. Tesla temporarily halts production at its Model 3 production line
Electric carmaker Tesla told its employees that it would temporarily halt production at its car assembly plant in California. Achieving maximum deliveries is crucial for the carmaker, as its Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk has set an ambitious goal of selling 20 million cars a year by 2030. It had also reduced the price of its cheaper variants of the Model 3 sedan and the Model Y sports utility vehicle (SUV). Read More

Aurora Partners With Toyota on Self-Driving Sienna Taxis
AUTONOMOUS DRIVING STARTUP Aurora announced on Tuesday that it has scored a partnership with Toyota to build self-driving taxis based on the Toyota Sienna minivan. The autonomous vehicle startup purchased Uber’s struggling self-driving technology division in December. Read More

RadSee’s affordable 4D radar hits the market
RadSee Technologies has released a 4D imaging radar for ADAS and autonomous vehicles, which it claims is able to deliver ultra-high performance and scalability to OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers at up to one third the cost of previous solutions. The company highlights that its platform also scales to accommodate different autonomy levels – standard, premium and lidar and is available for immediate integration into current ADAS design cycles as well as emerging autonomous vehicles. Cepton partners with ALP.Lab on lidar-based traffic system
Lidar specialist Cepton and the Austrian Industry and Testing Alliance, ALP.Lab, have partnered to build lidar-equipped testing environments for studying complicated road driving situations. ALP.Lab delivers real-life data on complex traffic situations to test the capabilities of the autonomous driving systems, and helps enable solutions to reduce accidents and improve traffic flows. Advanced Propulsion Centre: Technology Developer Accelerator Programme Wave 5 – The innovative solutions developed should align with one or more of the automotive council’s 5 strategic technologies, or be outside of these areas but demonstrating a strong impact potential (for example, developments that enable the accelerated advancement of low emission vehicle technologies). KTN-iX: Solutions to Understand Vehicle Use and Charging Requirements – With 102 fire stations and an unpredictable incident schedule there is considerable complexity in optimising scheduling and charging of vehicles while maintaining the high level of service. LFB is assessing how its heavy appliances will recharge – this includes installing dedicated charging at stations, the use of public sites as well as at the site of prolonged incidents. Read More
Approaches to mitigate against stranded diesel assets – This challenge is one of two being developed and promoted at this time. A second challenge is exploring how to improve the efficiency of shore derived power to the portside operations and visiting ships. An effective means to reduce pollution and decarbonise activity in the short to medium term will be to reduce demand and eventually replace fossil fuels as the means to derive energy to power mobility. Zero Emission Pumping Power for Emergency Vehicles – One of the biggest challenges in this transition is the development of the Zero Emission Pumping Appliance (commonly known as a Fire Engine) due to the technical requirements. The pumping appliance is also one of the most important vehicles in LFB’s fleet due to its function, flexibility and numbers (each station has at least one appliance). Approaches to delivering energy supplies to Ships in Port – Efficient energy management – Looking for innovative solutions for delivering energy efficiently to ships whilst in port: solutions must consider the availability of energy supply and the different demands of ships and port side equipment to explore efficient means of managing the electrical energy supplies, which are not infinite and are often in high demand. IETF deployment of energy efficiency technologies, Spring 2021- This competition aims to support the commercial roll out and permanent installation of technologies at industrial sites. This is the second round of the IETF Phase 1 competition. In this strand you must be an industrial business of any size to apply. Commercialising Quantum Technologies: germinator projects round 1 – UK registered organisations can apply for a share of up to £1 million for high risk, high return, quantum technology projects with defined commercial outputs. This funding is from ISCF. The aim of the competition is to stimulate the commercialisation of quantum technologies in the UK through the development of early-stage quantum technology opportunities.
