NICK CARPENTER: 1969-2020

Simon Dowson has paid tribute to his Delta Motorsport co-founder Nick Carpenter who sadly passed away shortly before Christmas after battle with cancer. Simon and Nick formed Delta in 2005, before then locating to Silverstone Park in 2007.Together, they then built the business into one of the premier names in high powered battery design and technology in the UK. Delta recently expanded on site to a third industrial property and it now employs over 45 people. Read More

ESA-supported project tests autonomous vehicles on an intelligent road in Finland

A 10-km stretch of forest-lined roadway on Finland’s E8 highway has been specially equipped for autonomous driving tests, ESA said. Containing cameras, “laser radar” lidar, ultra-wideband antennas and reflective panels, the road itself is underpinned by power and fibre optic lines, and embedded with pressure sensors to record road surface conditions and the speed and type of vehicles driving along it.“If autonomous vehicles can drive well here, they can drive almost anywhere,” said Sarang Thombre of the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute.  Read More

Aurrigo delivers autonomous vehicle technology to new £4m Milton Keynes 5G Create project

A Coventry-based autonomous vehicle specialist has been chosen to play a significant role in the £4m Milton Keynes MK 5G Create project. Aurora inked a major deal to put its self-driving software in semi-trucks

Autonomous vehicle startup Aurora on Tuesday announced a key partnership that brings it closer to its goal of deploying self-driving trucks. Aurora teamed up with Paccar, a major truck manufacturer that builds trucks under well-known nameplates including Peterbilt and Kenworth. Under the new agreement, the two companies will develop, test, and sell vehicles that marry Aurora’s autonomous-driving tech with Paccar’s vehicles, Aurora said. Read More

KTN Innovation Exchange challenge – zero emission infrastructure for fleets: KTN’s Innovation Exchange has posted a challenge from the Greater South East Energy Hub, a collaboration of eleven Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs). These LEPs are working together to increase the number, scale and quality of local energy projects being delivered across the greater south east region of England. The Hub works with public sector organisations and their stakeholders to support the development and financing of local energy projects. The hub is working with 14 local authorities in particular to ensure they meet their net zero goals around electrification of transport, as indicated above, it is not restricted to these 14 Local Authorities and additional ones may also express interest. Read More

Smart Living – Whole System Business Research Innovation for Decarbonisation: Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council are launching a Whole System Business Research Innovation for Decarbonisation (WBRID) pilot competition based upon Research and Development Pre-Commercial principles to identify innovative solutions which will support energy supply, demand and storage for commercial end users (and in the future domestic end users), across Blaenau Gwent and to work towards creating zero energy parks as a USP for Blaenau Gwent. Read More

Cyngor Gwynedd – Developing a Net Zero Farm Innovation Competition: The “Developing a Net Zero Farm” Project is a pilot SBRI-type competition being held by the North Wales Economic Ambition Board (NWEAB) in partnership with Coleg Cambria Llysfasi seeking projects developing innovative technology, systems and/or process solutions that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within a commercial agricultural setting in line with Wales’ Innovation in Agriculture agenda.
