The Agri-Tech Catalyst Competition is opening for application on 20 July. It’s open to UK and African organisations who want to collaborate on an Agri-Tech project around food chain innovation in Africa.
The competition is set up to boost innovation in the development of agricultural and food systems in Africa. The winning projects will help with innovation adoption in the whole food chain including farmers, manufacturers, processors, retailers, distributors and wholesalers.
The Agri-Tech Catalyst Competition first launched in July 2013 and is now in its 10th round.
What kind of projects are eligible?
For Round 10, the competition is looking for projects around the following areas:
- Primary crop and livestock production, including aquaculture.
- Non-food uses of crops, excluding ornamentals.
- Challenges in food processing, distribution or storage, and value addition.
- Improving the availability and accessibility of safe, healthy and nutritious foods.
What can the funding be used for?
The funding can be used for:
- Early-stage feasibility studies.
- Mid stage industrial research.
- Late-stage experimental development.
Where does the funding come from?
The funding comes from the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), a £1.5 billion fund set up by the UK government. The fund supports cutting-edge research to address challenges faced by developing countries.
The Agri-Tech Catalyst Competition is part of the GCRF AgriFood Africa programme. It’s a programme that aims to alleviate poverty, improve economic prosperity and wellbeing in Africa thanks to sustainable management of the food production systems.
