Wind River, Tage advance autonomous mining platform

Wind River edge, announced on Apr. 14th its collaboration with open-pit mining provider Beijing Tage Technology Co., which will develop a software platform for next-generation autonomous mining vehicles. They report the mining industry was an early adopter of fully autonomous vehicles and machinery to improve safety, increase productivity and save costs, and add that applying an autonomous haulage system will not only protect mining workers, but also improve the economic benefit to mining enterprises. WeRide announces self-driving fleet with over 100 vehicles

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Guangzhou-based WeRide announced on May 13 its autonomous driving fleet has so far had over 100 vehicles, and is about to begin scale operation of robotaxi service. Read More

Autonomous vehicles safety to be tested at WMG

The safety of autonomous vehicles will be tested by researchers at WMG, University of Warwick after £1.2m in funding was awarded. Dr Khastgir’s fellowship will aim to develop pioneering testing methodologies and international standards to enable robust and safe use of CAV. Read More

COVID-19: Government guidance for employees, employers and businesses

This guidance also provides details of support available to businesses including:

  • Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme
  • Deferring VAT and Self-Assessment payments
  • Statutory sick pay relief package for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS) and other Grants
  • New lending facility from the Bank of England to help support liquidity among larger firms

COVID 19 Funding Calls

COVID-19 Rapid Response Rolling Call Building on the initial calls of their Initiative, DHSC, through the NIHR, and UKRI are jointly launching a rolling call for proposals for rapid research into COVID-19. As this is a rolling call there is currently no fixed end date to the call, we are open to applications and will aim to review complete proposals within 4 weeks of submission. Read More

Covid-19 fast track: £1million Defence innovation funding for Covid-19 DASA is currently seeking any idea or novel approach that could boost the Ministry of Defence’s capabilities in support of the national effort against Coronavirus (Covid-19). Proposals should be clear as to whether they seek to address the current Covid-19 threat or future similar scenarios. Proposals addressing the current pandemic must have the ability or relevant permissions to successfully deliver the project despite current working restrictions. Read More

Future flight challenge phase 2: strand 2, development: Innovate UK will invest up to £30 million in innovation projects in phase 2 of the Future Flight Challenge. We will fund projects that develop integrated aviation systems and/or vehicle technologies that enable new classes of electric or autonomous air vehicles. Solutions should be able to be integrated into a mature operational environment, ensuring safe and reliable operation in flight and on the ground. Read More

NATEP: helping SMEs innovate in aerospace, spring 2020: Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, is working with the Aerospace Technology Institute and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Up to £10 million will be invested in NATEP (National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme) for aerospace innovation projects as part of the ATI programme. ICAV Cluster: Vehicle Integration Engineer – Reporting to the Technical Director, the Vehicle Integration Engineer Will Lead and drive forward the definition and implementation of a vehicle x-by-wire interface that will be used to integrate with a vehicle automation platform. The x-by-wire solution will be designed to be configurable across several target vehicles. The role is not just about developing the software but also about defining and integrating the electro-mechanical mechanisms and interfaces with existing vehicle systems (e.g. introducing epas, e-braking etc).
