Audi gives up on level 3 autonomous driver assist system in a8

Audi is giving up on its most advanced driver-assist system. The German automaker will no longer add its Traffic Jam Pilot system to the A8 sedan in Europe or anywhere else in the world, Automotive News Europe reported Tuesday. It’s now too late to add the system to the current-generation A8, as the car is already well into its lifecycle. Read More

Waymo shares new details about its autonomous vehicle simulation efforts

Waymo’s simulator runs on sister company Google LLC’s data centers and allows its virtual fleet to drive around the clock, seven days a week. Developing systems to automate moving groups of trucks

In the United States, trucking companies and the Army are both developing systems to automate moving groups of trucks. While trucking companies are mostly interested in “platoons” of trucks drafting off of each other to save fuel, the Army wants its “convoyed” trucks to be hundreds of meters apart to improve their chances of surviving an enemy attack. 5G enabled road and rail transport trials in the West Midlands: West Midlands 5G (WM5G) will work in partnership with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). Together they will invest up to £2.5 million in innovation projects that develop a new service or product. These must improve road and rail operational efficiency, provide better-connected transport or improve traveller experience.
